Yogyakarta Special Region Tourism

Yogyakarta Special Region is a province with semi-autonomous sultanate. With Yogyakarta City as the capital, Yogyakarta or some people just call it, Jogja is main tourism destination in Indonesia. Tourist facilities are widely available in all range from backpacker to luxury. The attractions are wide-range from ancient heritage, historical buildings, cultural attractions, incredible natures, unique sports, and nice shopping. Yogyakarta is also common hub to Central Java, especially to Borobudur Temple in Magelang.

There are one city and four regencies in Yogyakarta Special Region. The city is Yogyakarta while regencies are Sleman, Bantul, Gunung Kidul, and Kulon Progo.

 

How to Get In

 

You can get in by plane directly from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia, and major Indonesian cities to land at Adi Sucipto International Airport. From Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya and other major cities in Java you can take train, bus, or car. Taking bus or car from Bali is also possible.

Yogyakarta City is the center of Javanese heritage where Kraton Yogyakarta (Yogyakarta Palace) and Malioboro Street (the center of arts, shopping area, historical buildings, dining, hotels, hangout spaces, and night food markets) are located. Candi Prambanan and Ratu Boko are popular ancient archeological sites. For unique souvenirs, go to Kota Gede for silver craft. Popular natural allures are Mount Merapi National Park, Parang Tritis Beach, Parang Kusumo Beach (sandboarding spot), Pindul Cave, Sri Getuk Waterfall, Progo River (rafting spot), and much more.
